No, fifth and sixth grade children learn forest, water, and wildlife ecology, geology, and astronomy with their classes, during the school year. So, while they're at camp, they're still in school!

Camp Galilee on the east shore of Lake Tahoe hosts spring, fall, and winter programs. Children stay in cabins (heated in winter) or tents in the Jeffrey Pfine forest and learn in trail groups taught by experienced naturalists. Larger groups may be able to use the University of Nevada 4-H camp located in South Lake Tahoe during the spring and fall.

Please see the Sign Up! page for the dates of winter, spring and fall programs.

Four-day programs in the spring and fall, provide hands-on activities supporting state standards in 5th and 6th grade science, language arts, math, and the arts.  Two or three-day programs are available during the winter.

Students stay overnight, learning about the Sierra Nevada mountains, ecology, water, wildlife, and astronomy in an outdoor classroom.  Creative writing, songs, skits, and community-building activities including "Character Counts" round out the program. During spring and fall we take a boat ride on Lake Tahoe and hike at Spooner Lake.  During the winter we focus on winter ecology and go snowshoeing on the last day.

Costs for four day spring and fall programs and two or three day winter programs are on the Sign Up! page. Costs include all lodging, food, supplies, instructional staff, and student activity books to expand the program back in the classroom.
