Outdoor Education Programs

Our Lakefront Classroom

All overnight science camps are held right on the shore of Lake Tahoe at Camp Galilee with cozy heated cabins, great meals, and private beach.  Single-day and multi-day science programs are offered every fall, winter, and spring, with varying curriculum and activities depending on the season and school goals. Each summer we partner with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection to host a Project WET workshop for educators. Winter and summer break day camps are available for all kids age 6-12 who have a passion for exploring the outdoors!

Solutions

In the outdoor educational setting, students' capabilities expand. Those challenged by textbooks or indoor classroom learning often discover new potential for personal growth and success. Team-building activities help students develop interpersonal skills, respect, responsibility, and self-esteem.

Impact

Studies confirm the positive, lasting impact outdoor school experience has on students' interest in the natural sciences, appreciation of the environment, and positive attitudes toward one another. The healthy, productive, satisfying lives we envision for our children are dependent upon maintaining environmental quality and resources and the skills, attitudes and knowledge they will develop here at GBOS.

Coursework

Natural and Physical Sciences, Math, Music, Art, Creative Writing, History, Physical Education, Communications and Stewardship Practices.
